I love school visits! It's a wonderful time for me to connect with readers and to show students that writers are real people. My goal is for students to come away from my presentations feeling inspired to write and equipped to improve their writing. Sources of Inspiration
I can see it in their faces - your students want to write, but they don't know how to get started! I will show them where I got my ideas for my books, and how to care for and nurture their own inspirations.
Editing and Revision Tips
If students remember one thing from this presentation, it's this: writers rewrite! I show them the multiple ways that I edit my own work, and pass along hints and tricks for improving their own writing. I'll even show them my binder of edits for a book that was 'in pretty good shape'!
Seven and a Half Things
I recently created this presentation just for the end of the school year (although, really, I'll do it any time). My message - here's what I'll be doing this summer, and you should be doing it to! It's a fun presentation to get students reading and writing in their free time.
Two Heads Are Better Than One!
My newest book, This is Just a Test, was written with one of my best friends, Madelyn Rosenberg. This presentation features our own stories of how we came to write together, and invites students to engage in activities that promote collaborative writing.
I would like to thank you once more for making your visit such a huge success with our students. I had never seen an author receive such a boisterous ovation. Students have carried your books everywhere. We had our mother-daughter book club the next day and the girls voted to discuss your book next month. Several girls had already finished the book! Teachers were so enthused and I know your comments will inform their instruction. In addition, because your visit was such an outstanding success, our principal will be far more open to future author visits. You are truly an amazing writer who possess a unique ability to touch people of all ages!
